Mykolaiv Zoo, founded in 1901, is one of the oldest and largest zoos in Ukraine. Its history began with a private collection of animals belonging to the mayor Mykola Leontovych, and over time the zoo turned into one of the most significant nature conservation institutions in the country. The zoo occupies an area of more than 18 hectares and is home to more than 350 species of animals. The zoo is a popular recreation spot for residents and visitors to the city, attracting thousands of visitors every year.
