Deputies of the city council are offered to liquidate gymnasium №49 in the Ship district of Mykolaiv. In the summer of 2022, a rocket hit the building of the educational institution.

The corresponding project of the decision is published on the website of the city council, writes NikVesti. At the same time, they plan to create a commission that will deal with the liquidation of gymnasium №49.

On the site of the destroyed facility, the city authorities are considering the possibility of building an educational complex with a kindergarten and a school, Deputy Mayor Anatolii Petrov told NikVesti.

«There are very few children in school 49 — we will take them to Korabelnyi district. As the recovery is very slow today, we will plan, but it will not be now. In general, we are thinking of building a school-kindergarten complex there, but we need to build a new one,» he said.

The capital construction department of NikVesti also clarified that according to the results of the technical inspection of the building, its condition is assessed as emergency: «This is the 4th category, the building belongs to dismantling.»

The rocket attack on the Mykolaiv Gymnasium №49 took place on July 28, 2022. Then, during the attack, the security guard of the educational institution, who was on the spot, was injured.

The projectile created a huge hole in the schoolyard. A Russian rocket destroyed most of the building, some classrooms and other rooms were completely destroyed. Equipment and furniture of the institution, teaching materials, textbooks and sports equipment were damaged.

In March 2023, residents of Mykolaiv gathered near the destroyed building of gymnasium No. 49 to appeal to the city authorities. Prior to that, Mayor Oleksandr Sienkoevych assumed in his live broadcast on social networks that the educational institution will not be restored.

As of March 2, 2023, 157 gymnasium students attended online classes. The building of the institution is designed for 300 children, and earlier the institution worked in two shifts, said director Liudmila Slavinska.

At that time, 16 teachers worked in the gymnasium. English teacher Kateryna Chopenko may lose her job if the educational institution is liquidated.

«Each school had its own staff. For example, there are 16 teachers in our school, they will have to look for a job, and I think it will be difficult, because there are a lot of willing ones,» says Kateryna Chopenko.

At that time, those present appealed to the city authorities to include the educational institution in the General Plan of the city.
