In Mykolaiv, they plan to close kindergarten № 70 due to the state of emergency of the building and low attendance.

This became known on May 25 during a meeting of the Mykolaiv City Council's permanent deputy commission on issues of human rights, children, family, legality and publicity, NikVesti writes.

The head of the education department of the city council, Hanna Lychko, explained that the kindergarten is located on a plot of 0.10 hectares and has two buildings, one of which has been in a state of emergency since 2016 and needs major repairs. Due to non-compliance with modern sanitary standards, the project cannot be updated. In addition, the number of children attending Kindergarten №70 has significantly decreased: before the war, only 50 children attended it.

Hanna Lychko also noted that the birth rate in the city is constantly decreasing, which is another argument for the institution's liquidation.

«One of the buildings is in a state of emergency, since 2016 it has been undergoing major repairs and since then the children have been housed in one two-story building. According to today's sanitary regulations, we can't even go to update this project. I want to provide birth statistics. If in 2018 we had 4,488 children born in the city, in 2019 — 4,055 children, in 20 — 3,416 children, in 21 — 3,017 children, now our birth rate has generally fallen, that is why it is proposed this educational institution should be liquidated, that is, unfortunately, there are no prospects for this preschool education institution,» said Hanna Lychko.

Deputy of the Mykolaiv City Council Olena Kiseliova raised the issue of ensuring the availability of education for children living in the area. Hanna Lychko noted that the nearest kindergarten №22 is located on Shevchenko Street. The building is currently being renovated with the support of donors and will be able to accept children from a closed kindergarten.

«In the center is the nearest kindergarten, which is located on Shevchenko, and today donors have gone there for repair work, and it will be the nearest kindergarten where children can go. But at the same time, today we are repairing the simplest shelters, opening them, so far we are coping, but I hope that the security situation will improve and we will have more children,» said the official.

We will remind you that in Mykolaiv, in order to save budget funds and improve the quality of education, it is planned to liquidate primary school № 2 and join it to primary school №1.

In addition, the deputies of the city council are also offered to liquidate the gymnasium №49 in the Korabelnyi district of Mykolaiv. In the summer of 2022, a rocket hit the building of the educational institution.

What about children's education in Mykolaiv?

Mykolaiv schoolchildren have been studying online since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation. Although the government, with the help of donors and the state, is actively setting up shelters in educational institutions, which sometimes causes indignation among the townspeople.

The refusal of children to go to school is a guarantee of their personal safety, because Mykolaiv is still in the zone of possible ballistic damage from the Russian military, says Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych. At the same time, he emphasizes the importance of preparing shelters and resuming education in schools when the Armed Forces move the front line.

Currently, shelters have been installed in 37 educational institutions out of 142 schools and kindergartens in Mykolaiv. At the end of December 2023, the commission recommended the opening of seven more educational institutions with shelters.

In the next few years, the authorities plan to equip 54 shelters in kindergartens, schools and lyceums in Mykolaiv.

We will remind, this year the outflow of students was recorded in the schools of Mykolaiv. Compared to the last academic year , the number of schoolchildren decreased by 3,300. Vitalii Kim, the head of Mykolaiv RMA, explained that the city's schools work online because they are still targets for the Russian army. Vitalii Kim also explained that the decision on the offline operation of the city's schools will be made by the Office of the President and the Ministry of Education.

Where in Mykolaiv Oblast is there offline education?

57 educational institutions were allowed to work offline in the Mykolaiv region. Most of them are schools of Voznesensk and Pervomaysk districts. In addition, 94 schools work mixed, that is, children study offline in a certain sequence, for example, one week after another. Another 277 educational institutions work online.

It was also possible to organize an offline training process in the front-line Ochakiv, which is still in the zone of damage by the enemy's anti-aircraft missile system. There is a mixed form of education.

According to the monitoring of the Department of Education of the Mykolaiv City Council, 65% of schoolchildren want to study full-time.
