An environmentalist from Mykolaiv spoke at a conference in Berlin and presented the development of sewage treatment of the Bug estuary

Lyudmila Grigoryeva, the head of the Department of Ecology of the Petro Mohyla Medical Institute of ChNU, presented developments regarding the biotreatment of industrial and sewage effluents of the Buzka estuary at a conference in Berlin.

The research presentation took place on February 20 in Berlin as part of the event «Ukrainian Rural and Urban Water Infrastructure Needs Rethinking and Modernization.»

Ecologist Liudmyla Hryhorieva presented her research in the field of phyto- and rhizofiltration means. Her work is focused on using the accumulative properties of higher aquatic plants, macrophytes, and bottom silts of the Bug estuary for the biotreatment of industrial and sewage effluents.

A representative of the Siemens company expressed a desire to cooperate in this direction, and a representative of Hannover Wasser Gmbh discussed the prospects of using environmentally smart technologies in urban planning.

«This is an important step in the development of the ecological infrastructure of our country. We are moving in the right direction, and we feel support from both the authorities and the private sector,» Liudmyla Hryhorieva emphasized.

As you know, in Berlin on February 19, the Eastern Committee of the German Economy signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Mykolaiv Water Hub.

On the Ukrainian side, the Memorandum was signed by the Mayor of Mykolaiv Oleksandr Sienkevych and the founder of the public organization «Mykolaiv Water Hub» Hanna Montavon. The director of Mykolaivvodokanal Borys Dudenko was also present at the event.

The signing of this document provides for the restoration of the water supply system in the southern Ukrainian region.

A German public organization plans to open a modern innovation center in Mykolaiv under the name Mykolaiv Water Hub. It will become a center of scientific research, technical development and implementation of the latest technologies in the fields of water supply, energy and agro-food technologies.

It should be noted that together with the hub in Mykolaiv, a modern laboratory will be opened, which Mykolaiv universities and Kherson National Technical University will be able to use.

Earlier, the Ministry of Environment estimated that adaptation measures to climate change in the Mykolaiv region could cost more than 150 million euros.
