In Mykolaiv, residents of Shiroka Balka are complaining about the lack of tarmac and the potholed roads. Photo: NikVestiIn the Shiroka Balka neighbourhood of Mykolaiv, many streets still lack tarmac. After rain, the roads turn into a complete mess. Deep potholes make it difficult for cars to get through, and for parents with pushchairs, it is almost impossible to get around.
A local resident, Inna Nesterova, has lodged a complaint with the editorial team at NikVesti.
She explains that she is raising two children: her eldest daughter is 10 years old, and her youngest is just two months old. According to her, a walk with a pram along this road turns into a real ordeal.
«ou can see for yourself how many potholes there are. As soon as I put my baby in the stroller and head to the store, the baby wakes up almost immediately because the stroller is constantly shaking. You can see what kind of «asphalt» we have here — or rather, what’s shown in the photos. It’s just disappointing for Shyroka Balka. You read the news and see that roads are being repaired in other parts of the city. We recently bought a house here, and we’d like the area around our home to be just as well maintained as the rest of the city. We want improvements to be made for everyone, instead of having roads repaired in the city while our neighborhood is forgotten,» said Inna Nesterova.
She added that several streets in the part of the neighbourhood near the school have been repaired, but most of the roads in Shyroka Balka remain unpaved.
According to her, some streets have deep potholes and uneven surfaces, forcing drivers to travel at a snail’s pace, whilst pedestrians have to navigate around puddles and damaged sections after it rains.
«I see people driving along these roads. I don’t know whether they’ve got used to it or have simply given up and think: «Oh well, never mind.» It’s as if Shyroka Balka has simply been forgotten. There’s tarmac near the school, although the school itself isn’t currently open due to a lack of shelter. Not far from the school, in one neighbourhood, they did repair the road because a woman had written a petition. And that’s it. The repairs ended there,» says the woman.
