Although the number of open manhole covers in the city is gradually decreasing, this problem remains one of the most pressing. According to information shared during the meeting, the majority of such covers belong to JSC «Ukrtelecom».

Whereas there used to be 35 of the company’s open manhole covers in Mykolaiv, there are now only eight left. At the same time, a further ten manhole covers are sealed with makeshift structures instead of standard covers.

The company explained that it regularly faces thefts of manhole covers and telecommunications cables. As a result, the company is cooperating with law enforcement agencies and, once the problem has been resolved, plans to replace the temporary structures with new covers.

Separately, during the meeting, attention was drawn to the manhole covers belonging to the municipal utility «Mykolaivvodokanal». Currently, 12 of the company’s manholes remain uncovered.

Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych emphasised that open manhole covers pose a danger to the city’s residents and must be closed as soon as possible.

Earlier, the Mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, had instructed that shelters in the city remain open to the public during air raid alerts.
