Water supply charges in Mykolaiv will remain unchanged until the end of the year. Photo: Serhii Ovcharyshyn, NikVestiGennadiy Izyumov, director of the municipal enterprise «Mykolaivvodokanal», announced that water supply tariffs for the public will remain unchanged until the end of this year.
He made this announcement during the «Results of the First 100 Days» briefing on Thursday, 28 May, according to NikVesti.
«The tariff for the public has remained unchanged since 2021 and will not change in the near future. Yes, it is financially difficult for the company. But we understand that we are at war and it is hard for everyone. Therefore, the company will operate within the established limits,» says Hennadii Iziumov.
He added that further calculations regarding the tariff are still to be carried out. However, according to him, the city has only been using water from the new water main for the first year, so there is not yet a full understanding of all the costs that will arise in the future.
In addition, the new treatment facilities, which were built by the company «Avtostrada», are currently being operated by Regional Office of Water Resources (ROWR) and are scheduled to be transferred to the balance sheet of «Mykolaivvodokanal».
«This will take place in accordance with a specific roadmap. And at present, almost all operational modes are being tested there. We both understand that until we have gone through all the seasons using this water, we will not see how the composition and quality of the water changes. We will not fully understand the costs we will need to bear. Therefore, this is all still a work in progress. We are constantly monitoring water quality together with the relevant laboratories,» explained Hennadii Iziumov.
It should be noted that this year in Mykolaiv, the tariff for centralised water supply and drainage for businesses has been increased.
It is worth recalling that the municipal enterprise «Mykolaivvodokanal» is forecasting losses of at least 665 million hryvnias in 2026. They say that due to the war, household debts, and rising fuel and electricity prices, the deficit could become even greater.
Scandal at Mykolaivvodokanal
As a reminder, employees of the municipal enterprise «Mykolaivvodokanal» have spoken out against the company’s new management and the Supervisory Board, accusing them of unprofessionalism and allegedly preparing the company for privatisation.
The Water Utility’s Supervisory Board, together with Director Hennadii Iziumov, stated that the company is in a critical financial state due to a prolonged governance crisis, ineffective management and systemic operational issues.
Also, during a meeting between staff and the new CEO on 15 April, the dismissal of Technical Director Vasyl Telpis was discussed. An audio recording of this conversation is in the possession of the editorial team at NikVesti. Employees reported that the dismissal came as a surprise to them, as Telpis had worked at the company since the 1980s and had been acting as head following the death of Borys Dudenko.
At this meeting, Hennadii Iziumov stated that he had not made the decision to dismiss Telpis and claimed that it had been taken by the Supervisory Board. However, the Supervisory Board denied having made a decision to dismiss Vasyl Telpis.
