In Mykolaiv, a solid line has been painted along Mariupolska Street up to Pavlo Skoropadskyi Street to prevent traffic jams near McDrive. However, drivers sometimes turn off Central Avenue and break the traffic rules.

This is reported by NikVesti.

Previously, on social media, Mykolaiv residents complained about drivers who, despite the new road markings, still join the McDrive queue from Central Avenue. The fine for violating Part 1 of Article 122 of the Code of Administrative Offences (without causing an emergency situation) is 340 hryvnias.

Patrol police spokesperson Vitalii Dushko told NikVesti that drivers who cross the solid line are fined when law enforcement officers are on duty nearby or when relevant calls are received. The patrol police do not patrol this section because they are short-staffed.

«If patrol officers witness a violation, they will respond in accordance with current legislation. But we cannot station a permanent crew there because we have calls, road traffic accidents and other duties. Local authorities need to respond here and, together with McDonald’s management, resolve the issue of organising access to the McDrive,» explained Vitalii Dushko.

He added that the patrol police sometimes receive calls about this, and officers have to explain that the queue should form from the side of Mark Kropyvnytskyi Street.

«I’ve also had calls about McDonald’s due to drivers breaking the rules. This was even before the solid line was painted. We explained that drivers can join the queue from the side of Mark Kropyvnytskyi Street — there, drivers will stay in their own lane and won’t obstruct traffic. Previously, patrol officers even helped to form this queue, but we can’t regulate it constantly,» says Vitalii Dushko.

It should be noted that McDonald’s officially opened in Mykolaiv on 27 March. Residents had been queuing since early morning.

They were in no hurry to open the doors to the public, as officials had come for a tour. Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych, Head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration Vitalii Kim, councillors and officials were spotted. They were shown how the kitchen works and the food preparation processes. By 11.30 am, the doors were opened to the public and people began rushing inside.

Closure of McDonald’s in Mykolaiv

As a reminder, the McDonald’s fast-food restaurant closed in Mykolaiv at the start of the full-scale invasion.

In April 2023, the mayor of Mykolaiv had already announced that a McDonald’s was due to open in the city in the near future. Also, at the end of 2023, McDonald’s staff in Mykolaiv began refurbishing the restaurant premises and the surrounding area.

It later emerged that McDonald’s could not open in Mykolaiv due to a lack of safe drinking water. However, Mykolaiv’s mayor, Oleksandr Sienkevych, promised to discuss the matter with the company’s management.

In the summer of 2024, the land commission of the Mykolaiv City Council voted to extend the lease term for land plots for the company «McDonald’s Ukraine Ltd».
