In the centre of Mykolaiv, at 9-A Mala Morska Street, there has been an unfinished building fenced off for many years. There is effectively no pedestrian zone there, so residents are forced to walk on the road.

This was reported by Vadym Pashkevych, chairman of the 9A Mala Morska Housing Association, in the Contact Centre group at Mykolaiv City Council.

The unfinished building in question is located near the antenatal clinic on Mala Morska Street, between Spaska and Vadym Blahovisnyi Streets.

The Mykolaiv resident pointed out that the problem with this unfinished building and the dilapidated fence has existed for many years. Residents of the housing association at 9A Mala Morska Street. Pedestrians, particularly patients of the antenatal clinic, have nowhere to walk. Consequently, they are forced to walk on the road.

«Residents of the 9A Mala Morska housing association are demanding the demolition or relocation of the fence, followed by the restoration of the former pedestrian crossing. This fence has blocked the passage from the antenatal clinic. Pregnant women have to walk along the road, which was particularly dangerous in winter when the street lighting was switched off. This is also the route to City Gymnasium №2,» noted Vadym Pashkevych.

The man highlighted another problem: homeless people are entering the unfinished building site through a hole in the fence and littering the area.

«A huge hole in the fence has turned the area behind it into a toilet. The proximity of rubbish bins also allows homeless people to accumulate and sort rubbish behind the fence. This problem requires an immediate solution,» added the Mykolaiv resident.

The complaint was registered under number 65819.

In a comment to NikVesti, the head of the Central District Administration, Oleksandr Bereza, stated that the site of the unfinished building is private property. Therefore, in this situation, a fine may be imposed on the owner.

As a reminder, in the centre of Mykolaiv, specifically in Admiralteiskyi Square (formerly 61 Communards Square, — note), there has been an unfinished building surrounded by a fence for many years. However, part of the structure is now damaged, and the excavated pit is gradually turning into a rubbish dump.

In addition, there is another unfinished building in the city centre — on 3rd Slobidska Street — which has prompted numerous complaints from Mykolaiv residents. Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University has repeatedly appealed to the Mykolaiv City Council to transfer the unfinished building to them for the establishment of a university clinic, but councillors have failed to pass the vote and have not reached an agreement on this.

In 2023, it was reported that documentation was being prepared in Mykolaiv for the future construction of a cluster hospital on 3rd Slobidska Street. However, the issue remains unresolved since then.

Currently, residents of Mykolaiv are complaining about rats near the unfinished building, which are running around the surrounding area. Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych said at a city council session that the car park area near the unfinished building could be returned to the city’s ownership and placed under the protection of the municipal enterprise Timeset.
