Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha stated that in 2025, Russia had stolen around 2 million tonnes of Ukrainian grain and sold it in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
He made this announcement during the third Black Sea Security Conference in Chisinau.
According to the minister, Russia has turned the Black Sea into a war zone, is systematically attacking Ukraine’s maritime infrastructure, including ports, and is attempting to destabilise global food supply chains.
«Russia continues to influence the global food market. Last year, around 2 million tonnes of Ukrainian grain were stolen, of which around 40% ended up in Egypt,» noted Andrii Sybiha.
The minister emphasised that this is not just about stolen grain, but also about funding the war against Ukraine.
He also stressed that restoring security in the Black Sea region is a key condition for stability in Europe and the world, and that the Black Sea must once again become an area of peace and freedom of navigation.
Sybiha added that Ukraine’s security is impossible without maritime security and the presence of allies in the Black Sea. Turkey, Moldova and Romania can play an important role in supporting regional stability.
Separately, the minister emphasised the need to de-occupy Crimea, which Russia is using as a military base for attacks:
«The only solution is the full restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity. And it all begins with Crimea and must end with Crimea. Crimea is Ukraine,» said Andrii Sybiha.
It is worth recalling that Ukraine has become the main supplier of grain to Syria following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, and the volume of Ukrainian humanitarian aid significantly exceeds that of Russia.
