As of the end of January, the total capacity of home and business charging stations in Ukraine is estimated at 1.6 GW. EcoFlow accounts for 62% of this market.
This was reported by Valery Yakovenko, co-founder of DroneUA, whose company is the official representative of EcoFlow in Ukraine, according to Delo.ua.
According to him, the total capacity already exceeds 3 GW, which is almost equal to the output of the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant. For comparison, even in severe frosts, Kyiv consumes about 2 GW, which is one gigawatt less than what owners of home and business charging stations can potentially provide.
Valery Yakovenko explained that the most popular systems among users have a capacity of 256–1000 W·h. During blackouts, demand increases for more powerful 1000–2000 W·h solutions that can provide backup power for the home.
Businesses mostly choose large energy-independent units of up to 90 kWh, often combining them with generators. These systems are primarily used to protect critical infrastructure, particularly the IT sector, as well as to organise workspaces.
Valery Yakovenko added that the market for energy-independent technologies has been growing since 2021, with the first peak in demand observed in October 2022. Prices for devices have remained stable, but due to constant rocket and drone attacks by the Russian Federation, there has been a shortage and speculation: new models are often bought up to be sold at a higher price.
Due to logistical problems, some items delivered by air are 20-30% more expensive, but even they are in demand. The highest demand throughout the year is for charging stations in the price range of 20-30 thousand hryvnia. During peaks in demand, sales of more powerful and expensive models — 50-80 thousand hryvnia — increase.
It should be noted that after another massive Russian shelling, the situation in the Ukrainian energy system remains extremely difficult. Due to new damage to energy infrastructure facilities, a significant electricity shortage has formed, which is currently difficult to cover.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy reported that due to the Russian Federation's massive shelling of energy infrastructure facilities, nuclear power plants had to reduce their electricity generation. Later, the IAEA commented on the shutdown of Ukrainian nuclear power plants.
