Regional councillor slams Snihurivka–Mykolaiv road maintenance during icy weather: «Cars were skidding off the road»

Deputies of the Mykolaiv Regional Council expressed their outrage at the condition of the T-15-08 Snihurivka-Mykolaiv motorway during the icy conditions. According to them, the road was not treated with anti-icing materials, which led to numerous accidents.

This became known during the regional council session on 29 January, according to NikVesti.

During his speech, regional council deputy Andrii Zakusilov noted that weather conditions had been difficult in recent weeks, but the road had not been properly maintained for winter conditions.

«At the beginning of this week and last week, the situation on the road was critical. Due to severe icing, vehicles could only travel at a speed of 5-10 kilometres per hour. There were many cases of cars skidding off the road — not just isolated incidents, but dozens of vehicles. I personally drove to Mykolaiv and still saw damaged cars and vehicles in the ditches,» the counsillor emphasised.

In this regard, he called for those responsible for road maintenance to be identified and the reasons for the lack of proper treatment of the road surface to be investigated.

Following the discussion, the deputies decided to appeal to the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration and the Infrastructure Restoration and Development Service in the Mykolaiv region with a request to provide information on measures taken to maintain the T-15-08 road in winter.

We remind you that due to difficult weather conditions, traffic was restricted on the roads of the Mykolaiv and Odesa regions.

We would also like to remind you that in Mykolaiv, 98 people have been admitted to hospital over the last three days due to icy conditions, most of whom were involved in falls on slippery pavements.

In addition, due to bad weather in Mykolaiv, some schools have switched to distance learning , but kindergartens are operating as usual.

The corresponding appeal was supported by 43 deputies of the regional council.
