Power restrictions in Ukraine will remain in place for a long time, regardless of whether there are rocket attacks from Russia or not.
This was stated by Olha Babii, advisor to the Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council on energy and critical infrastructure, on the air of «Novyny.LIVE».
According to her, power cuts have become a long-term reality to which Ukrainians will have to adapt. Even in the absence of attacks, the energy system will remain deficient, in particular due to peak loads in the summer.
«Any restrictions will be with us for a long time, in any situation. Even if there are no rocket and bomb attacks. There is hope that energy companies will receive funding and equipment and will be able to continue working, but there will be no quick return to stability,» said Olha Babii.
She added that the current situation has been exacerbated by the cold winter, and it was practically impossible to prepare for attacks on the energy system on an unprecedented scale, as no country had ever faced such challenges before.
At the same time, she stressed that the situation is likely to escalate, as the Russians will continue to try to destroy the power system.
«There may be a temporary long-term power outage... It's just a matter of time: either a matter of a week or a matter of two to three weeks. Indeed, we may have strict schedules, but these strict schedules are caused by several factors. The first factor is temperature conditions... The second part of the issue is that our power generation is constantly being destroyed by rocket and bomb strikes,» explained Olha Babii.
At the same time, Babii stressed that Ukraine already has experience of a complete blackout in 2022 and is capable of coping with the current challenges. The situation may improve at the end of February with rising temperatures and increased solar generation, but complete stabilisation should not be expected in the near future.
Earlier, the head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, Vitalii Kim, promised that the amount of electricity in the region's grid could increase in the near future thanks to cogeneration.
