In Mykolaiv, opportunities will be sought to create an inclusive beach for people with disabilities.

This was announced during a meeting of the Mykolaiv City Council's committee on health and social protection on Monday, 26 January, according to NikVesti.

Serhii Vasylenko, director of the Mykolaiv City Council's Department of Labour and Social Protection, reported that every summer, trips to an inclusive beach in Odesa are organised for people with disabilities. According to him, last year such trips took place twice a month and cost the city budget 163,000 hryvnias.

At the same time, Hanna Nord, chair of the Mykolaiv City Council's Health Care Committee, asked why Mykolaiv still does not have its own inclusive beach.

In response, the director of the social protection department explained that significant funds are needed to set up such a facility.

«Currently, international organisations are being sought. Deputy Stepanets is working on this issue, looking for funds to equip such a beach. At present, only a small path has been built on Namiv for wheelchair access. There is nothing else yet," said Serhiy Vasilenko.

Hanna Nord emphasised that it is important for the city to have its own inclusive beach and not be limited to trips to other cities. She also suggested involving the Victoria City Physical Culture and Health Club in the work.

«We shouldn't just take our people to Odesa. I understand that the sea is good, but we should also have it here. Not everyone can travel,» she stressed.

Following the discussion, the commission members proposed that the Department of Physical Culture and Sports and the Department of Social Protection prepare specific proposals for the creation of an inclusive beach in Mykolaiv within a month, as well as options for possible financing. The developed solutions are planned to be considered at the commission meeting in March.

It should be noted that in 2025, the Bezmezh inclusive beach in Odesa was visited by about 160,000 people.

In March 2025, the restoration of the inclusive beach at the 11th station of Velykyi Fontan began in Odesa. The city budget allocated 19.5 million hryvnias for its major repairs and infrastructure upgrades.

From June to September 2025, residents of Mykolaiv with musculoskeletal disorders were transported free of charge to the inclusive beach in Odesa.
