The head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Vitalii Kim, explained the reasons for the long power outages in the region, despite the presence of the South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant.

He said this during a telethon.

«We have 3-4 queues. Unfortunately, there is no electricity for a very long time, despite the fact that we have a nuclear power plant. We supply most of the electricity to other regions of Ukraine. For example, the situation in the West is better, but they cannot give energy to other regions. And we can, we share,» said the head of the RMA.

He added that the state of the power system remains difficult due to Russian shelling, but a partial improvement is possible in the near future.

«I hope that our power engineers will soon restore their capacity and then the situation will improve. Roughly, next week, at best. Perhaps on 15-16 December there will be an improvement if the Defence Forces hold back the sky,» he said.

In addition, to extend the time of electricity supply to the population, the region is shutting down some critical infrastructure facilities and switching them to generators.

It should be noted that the power situation in Mykolaiv region has deteriorated significantly over the past few days. The power cuts have become longer and locals can be without electricity for up to 17 hours a day.

Vitalii Kim has repeatedly said that despite the fact that Mykolaiv region produces ten times more electricity than it consumes, residents of the region will still be left without electricity according to the blackout schedules, as well as throughout Ukraine

Later, the head of the Mykolaiv regional military administration said that in case of emergencies with power outages, the «Island plan» would be in place in the region. This will ensure the uninterrupted operation of critical infrastructure, social facilities and government agencies.

Recently, the regional power company said that in Mykolaiv region over the past month, during the hourly blackout schedules, consumers of all categories were left without electricity for almost the same duration. On average, Mykolaiv residents were without power for 218 to 220 hours.
