Emergency and conservation work has begun in Mykolaiv on the damaged Menchini's House, a building of the regional centre of folk art located on Admiralska Street, opposite the destroyed hotel «Ingul».
This was reported by Svitlana Hladun, head of the Mykolaiv Cultural Heritage Protection Department, in a comment to NikVesti.
«The stage of research and design work is complete. The stage of emergency and urgent conservation work is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year. The main work is aimed at roofing, strengthening and conservation», she said.
So far, 3D photography and laser scanning of the object have been completed, and now, with the assistance of local architects and builders, the first stage of preservation and restoration of the object has begun — the development of scientific and design documentation and urgent conservation and emergency work, according to the Agency for Cultural Sustainability.
«The work is part of a project to stabilise Ukraine's damaged cultural heritage. The work was started with the support of the US Embassy Fund for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage», the Agency for Cultural Resilience added.
Earlier, in a commentary to NikVesti, Svitlana Hladun, head of the Mykolaiv Cultural Heritage Protection Department, said that the non-governmental organisation, the Agency for Cultural Resilience», had allocated 1.2 million hryvnias for priority emergency repairs to the Menchini's House.
As a reminder, the Menchini's House was one of the architectural monuments destroyed by Russia. In 2022, it was added to the State Register of Architectural Monuments. In Soviet times, it was the home of pioneers, where songwriter and author of the Moscow anthem Mark Lysianskyi began his career. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the building has been damaged several times by blast waves caused by Russian strikes. The building suffered the greatest damage in July 2023 during a Russian missile attack.

It refers to plans to transfer to the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning of the city council the functions of protecting cultural heritage sites, which are currently performed by the Department of Culture of the city council.
This could «create a potential conflict of interest», the Department of Culture, Nationalities and Religions of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration warned the city council.
