A quarter of the crops lost due to drought and spring frosts in Mykolaiv region are in the Bashtanka district, which is more than 24,000 hectares.
This was announced during a briefing by Vladyslav Dmytriv, head of the Bashtanka district military administration, according to NikVesti.
As a reminder, more than 100,000 hectares of crops were damaged in Mykolaiv region.
According to him, the region's agricultural sector has experienced one of the most difficult seasons in recent years. Despite the expansion of grain areas, the yield was only 18 centners per hectare.
«For the 2025 harvest, 110,000 hectares of grain crops were sown. Due to the dry year and spring frosts, we lost 24,000 hectares of crops. We have had 508 farms apply to local governments to save the sunflower crops,» said Vladyslav Dmytriv.
He noted that farmers are actively applying for government support programmes, including through the State Agrarian Register. Currently, 877 small farmers have applied and are waiting for payments totalling 60 million hryvnias, which is 538 more than last year.
Separately, 201 farms are expecting a special budget subsidy for cows worth 10 million hryvnias.
The largest amount of compensation is expected under the subsidy programme for cultivated land. 442 applications for 153 million hryvnias have been approved from Bashtanka district — these funds are to compensate for crop losses.
The official adds that despite the difficult season, farmers are preparing for the next year. For the 2026 harvest, 87% of the planned areas have been sown. According to Vladyslav Dmytrov, farms are switching to more drought-resistant crops, as industrial and oilseeds in the south are increasingly failing to produce the expected results.
In October, Vitalii Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, said that due to the war, drought and lack of funding, this year was more difficult for farmers in the region than in 2023.
