The mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, has said that the city budget is looking for 60 million hryvnias for salaries and utilities.

The mayor said this during a conversation with journalists on 18 November, according to NikVesti.

As you know, all budget payments have been suspended in Mykolaiv, sources in the Mykolaiv City Council told NikVesti. The main spending units, as well as the city's utility companies, were instructed to suspend all payments for expenditures that do not relate to protected items, namely public sector salaries and utility bills.

According to available information, the day before, the mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, issued a corresponding order. The reason for this was the lack of budget funds to cover the protected budget items by the end of the year. The estimated amount is over 200 million hryvnias.

The mayor explained that the funds are to be withdrawn from the Capital Construction Department and the Housing and Communal Services Department of the city council.

«We will withdraw them from the projects that will not be completed by the end of this year. These are some capital construction projects. For example, some projects from the Capital Construction Department that have not passed the examination, from the Housing and Communal Services Department. There are things that were planned to be bought this year: for example, paint for marking,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.

When asked where exactly the freed-up funds would be spent, the mayor answered: «For salaries and utilities». According to him, the city budget needs another 60 million hryvnias by the end of the year to cover these costs.

«We have counted about 60 million hryvnias somewhere,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.

He explained that they plan to lift the ban on budget payments before the city council session scheduled for 27 November.

«No (the ban will not be lifted after the session, — note) It will be lifted after we determine where we will withdraw the money from. I think we should do it within a week, before the session. We just need to determine and fix with the key spending units what funds they are not using. This is to ensure that while we are discussing the budget, they do not use this money,» the mayor added.
