The municipal enterprise «Animal Protection Centre» plans to renovate the animal sterilisation facility and purchase new equipment.

The updated Programme for the Treatment of Cats and Dogs for 2026-2030 was supported by members of the executive committee at a meeting on 12 November, according to NikVesti.

In particular, the company plans to renovate the sterilisation and animal care centre at 36/1 Vodopiina Street. Separate areas for quarantine, postoperative, therapy, two surgeries, a laboratory, a sterilisation room, a kitchen for animals, living quarters for staff, and fire and burglar alarms are to be set up there.

It is worth noting that in 2025, a major overhaul of this sterilisation unit was already planned. However, due to lack of funding, the work was not carried out.

It is also planned to purchase new equipment for trapping, diagnostics and laboratory, as well as a special vehicle for catching animals, which should make the company's work more efficient.

In addition, the Centre wants to increase the number of winter enclosures — to build 60 more — to improve conditions for the animals and increase their adaptation. Separately, it is planned to repair the fence of the sterilisation point to increase security on the territory.

In addition, the document notes that the previous programme (2020-2025) allowed for the capture of more than 7.6 thousand stray animals and the sterilisation of more than 9 thousand dogs and cats, but the number of unsterilised animals in the city still exceeds the permissible level.

The new programme aims to reduce the number of stray animals using humane methods, increase the level of responsibility of owners, and improve the conditions of animals in Mykolaiv. Members of the executive committee supported the draft decision.

As a reminder, 1138 stray animals were sterilised in Mykolaiv during the year. Of these, 895 were dogs and 243 were cats.

In January this year, the city extended the validity period and approved amendments to the Programme for the Treatment of Cats and Dogs and the Regulation of the Number of Stray Animals by Humane Methods.

It is worth noting that Mykolaiv regularly hosts stray animal adoption exhibitions. They are organised by both volunteers and the municipal enterprise «The Animal Protection Centre». For example, on 21 September, an animal adoption exhibition was held in Mykolaiv with «The Animal Protection Centre». 7 dogs and 4 cats found new homes.

With the onset of cold weather in «The Animal Protection Centre» asks citizens to help stray dogs and cats with warm clothes to help them survive the cold season.
