As of October 2025, 70% of buildings in Ochakiv were destroyed or damaged: private houses, high-rise buildings and infrastructure.

«We have about 60-70% (of buildings, — note) damaged or destroyed. This includes private housing, high-rise buildings and infrastructure facilities. Windows were smashed in almost all houses. I think only 10% of the buildings are intact,» Ochakiv Mayor Serhii Bychkov told us in a commentary.

"Now the damaged housing is being repaired only at the expense of the city budget and thanks to donors," emphasises Mayor Bychkov: «"Unfortunately, we are not included in the programme «eRestoration». Because the Cabinet of Ministers' programme does not apply to places that are in the combat zone».

«We are not building walls or installing windows yet. This is done by donors, if they are willing to do it. We are only repairing roofs and sewing up windows with OSB panels. It is impossible to cover everything.

There are houses that have been hit four times. We repaired the roof, a month later it hit again, then six months later again. These are vulnerable areas,» said Sergey Bychkov.

Ochakiv is shelled every day. «We have tested all types of weapons on ourselves», says Deputy Mayor Oleksii Vaskov. The Russian military is now launching FPV drones and reconnaissance vehicles at the city every day, firing artillery and attacking with various types of missiles. It is through Ochakiv that most of the Shahed drones, which Russia is firing at Ukraine, fly.

As a reminder, after the withdrawal of «military» personal income tax, almost half of the employees of the Ochakiv City Hall had to be laid off.
