The municipal utility «Mykolaivvodokanal» explained why repairs in the city often take longer than residents expect.
According to the company's Facebook page, the prolonged use of salty estuary water after the destruction of the centralised water supply system has led to a 5-10-fold increase in the number of accidents on city networks.
«After a leakage from a water or sewerage network, it is no longer enough to simply dig up the accident site and put a repair clamp over the hole in the pipe, as was done three years ago. Nowadays, repairmen sometimes find 3 to 5 such holes at the accident site. They occur in 20-30 cm, and sometimes in a metre and a half», they told.
The utility company also explained that the holes dug in the city are left open on purpose for a day or two or even longer. This is so that specialists can prepare materials for a full repair, monitor the area and detect new leaks in time.
Specialists from «Mykolaivvodokanal» advised residents of Mykolaiv «to be patient».
«It is clear that such ruptures add to the discomfort of the citizens. Believe me, they do not bring pleasure to the water utility either. But we all need to be patient and tolerant, because such situations will not decrease in the near future», the company said.
In addition, «Mykolaivvodokanal» stressed that the long pipeline replacement time is due to a lack of qualified specialists, materials and funding in the city.
Earlier, NikVesti wrote that the new water supply system for Mykolaiv had already been launched, but the water from it «cannot be drunk» — additional treatment plants are promised for the New Year.
