In August, the branch «The Southern Forest Office» of the state enterprise «of the Forests of Ukraine» signed contracts for the arrangement of three recreational sites in Mykolaiv region. Their cost was 6.2 million hryvnias.
This is according to the ProZorro public procurement system, according to NikVesti.
The first tender was held for the construction of a recreation centre in Bashtanka forestry. A contract worth 2 million 72 thousand was signed with private entrepreneur Mykhailo Zakharchenko without a tender. The contractor is to equip the recreation centre by 31 October 2025: install a gazebo, a toilet, a barbecue area, a fence, a sidewalk, benches, bins, a fire shield, a table with chairs, a children's attraction, a sports attraction, a lawn, planting, etc.
The second contract was signed by the branch «of the Southern Forestry Office» of the state enterprise «Forests of Ukraine» with individual entrepreneur Ruslan Voloshyn without bidding. The recreational centre worth 2.75 million hryvnias is to be set up in Novyi Buh forestry in Bashtanka district. The contractor has until the end of October this year to install gazebos and organise a recreation area.
Another recreation area worth 2 million 72 thousand hryvnias will be built in the Prybuzke forestry of Voznesensk district. The contractor was also selected without bidding. It was again Ruslan Voloshyn, an individual entrepreneur. The recreation centre is to be equipped with barbecues, gazebos and other facilities by 31 October.
In a commentary to NikVesti, Vasyl Doroshuk, chief forester of the «Southern Forest Office» of the State Enterprise «Forests of Ukraine», said that 13 recreational points have already been opened in Mykolaiv region.
«One of them was built and handed over this year, and by the end of July it had already been completed. Three more are in the process of being completed,» he said.
The three recreation centres that will be built by the end of October will be slightly larger than the previous ones and will have four gazebos each.
«The arrangement at the recreational centres is more or less typical, but slightly different. The ones built earlier are almost the same. In Matviivka, there are two recreational centres opposite each other. They are identical. The ones built in the first half of the year are smaller, with two gazebos, a barbecue area, a toilet, a barbecue area, and benches. The three that are planned to be built are larger and will have four gazebos each. There will also be a playground and a sports ground, a fire pit», said Vasyl Doroshuk.
Vasyl Doroshuk also notes that the arrangement of such recreation areas helps to reduce the number of fires in the forests.
«"Take the same Matviivka in Mykolaiv. People go there to relax, to spend time with their families. When there was no place to relax and make a fire, it was a chaotic spontaneous recreation. Today, there is a recreation area and a place for a bonfire. I don't want to swear, but this year in Matviivka has been productive (in terms of reducing the number of fires, — note)», says Vasyl Doroshuk.
The chief forester of the «branch of the Southern Forest Office» adds that people mostly have a cultural holiday and clean up the garbage, but vandalism is not uncommon.
It is worth noting that since the beginning of the year, 4,070 fires have occurred in Mykolaiv region, and most of them are in open areas. Rescuers say this is 50% more than last year. Rescuers extinguish about 40 fires in open areas every day.
The State Ecological Inspectorate of the South-Western Region has calculated that the damage caused by the fires to the environment of Mykolaiv region during the «fire-hazardous period» since April 2025 is 1.36 billion hryvnias.
