On 2 September, a memorial service was held in Mykolaiv for the deceased former Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andrii Parubii. About two dozen people attended the event.
This was reported by the correspondent of NikVesti.
Both ordinary residents of the city and politicians, public figures and participants of the Revolution of Dignity came to honour the memory of the former Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada. In the Council of Europe Square, near the monument to the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred, citizens brought flowers and lit candles in memory of Andrii Parubii.
The action began with a memorial prayer for the deceased.
After that, Taras Kremin, former language ombudsman, former chairman of the Mykolaiv Regional Council and MP of previous convocations, took the floor. He stressed that this meeting, although organised spontaneously, was a manifestation of the common sentiments of all Ukrainians — hatred of Russian aggression and respect for those who gave their lives for the freedom of our country.
«It is very sad to admit that in addition to Russian bullets and numerous rocket attacks that destroy our cities and villages, a real struggle and hunt for Ukrainian citizens, educators, patriots, and military personnel, who are being humiliated, killed, and deprived of opportunities and rights, continues in different parts of the country. But today's meeting is a sign of great respect and gratitude to the great son of Ukraine, Andrii Parubii,» said Taras Kremin.
He emphasised the important role played by the former Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada during the Revolution of Dignity and at the beginning of Russian aggression against Ukraine, including for Mykolaiv region.
«Personally, I want to thank Andrii Parubii for what he has done for each of us, for the democratic forces of Mykolaiv region, for the opposition. When the fire of the Revolution was raging, Andrii Parubii became the commandant. And when the capital was burning, when those who had the right to look us in the eye fled from the offices of power, Andrii Parubii became the Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine. Let me remind you that these were the times when pro-Russian forces were blocking bridges, trying to seize the buildings of certain law enforcement agencies and local governments and hold conditional «elections». One of the first visits of the Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine Andrii Parubii to Mykolaiv region was a great support for us, for democratic forces, for determination, for struggle,» the politician stressed.
Those who knew him personally shared their memories of the politician. In particular, the former head of the Mykolaiv TV and Radio Company Yaroslav Indikov, a representative of the «Sprava Hromad» NGO, Serhii Samoukov, and a deputy of the Mykolaiv Regional Council («Propozytsiya» faction) Valentyn Boiko addressed the participants of the action. They noted that Andrii Parubii was an outspoken and simple man who sincerely cared about Ukraine, and therefore the news of his death was a painful blow.

«Andrii was fighting for a free country of free people, and he died for that,» added former MP Vadym Pidberezniak.
In addition to Andrii Parubii, the memorial service also commemorated the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred, as well as all Ukrainians who gave their lives in the struggle for the country's independence.
