Mykolaiv City Council member Andrii Yantar has asked the executive committee to provide a justification for the economic efficiency of paid parking in the city.

He made this appeal during a session of the Mykolaiv City Council, according to NikVesti.

As it became known, during the first month of operation, the system replenished the city budget by about 47 thousand hryvnias.

«A month after the start of the paid parking system, users paid 83,920 hryvnias during this month. After the necessary deductions, the local budget will receive only 40 thousand hryvnias. This is very little money,» said Andrii Yantar.

The deputy stressed that due to the introduction of paid parking, drivers have started to park en masse, in particular on Mala Morska and Schneersona streets. He proposed to give the executive committee a protocol instruction to analyse the feasibility of introducing a paid parking system in the current format.

«There are more inconveniences than economic benefits. I think the townspeople will only thank us,» he added.

In turn, Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych agreed with the need to analyse the situation, but stressed that the issue concerns not only budget revenues, but also traffic management.

«It is also about traffic management. I go to work every morning along Nikolska Street and there used to be one lane, but now there are three. Cars park... There is a paid parking system everywhere. In Ukraine, too: Odesa, Kyiv, Dnipro, Kropyvnytskyi. The issue is not the quality or price of parking...» the mayor said.

In response, Andrii Yantar said that parking inspectors can control this.

As a reminder, Andrii Yantar, a member of Mykolaiv City Council, criticised the paid parking system in the city centre. He stated that it not only does not add comfort to residents, but also creates additional problems.

The mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, suggested that the deputies wait for the results of the first month of operation of the parking areas, after which they can analyse the financial revenues and return to this issue at the next session.

As you know, on 11 June, eight paid car parking locations were launched in the centre of Mykolaiv.

At the same time, the number of free parking spaces in the centre of Mykolaiv has decreased. The municipal specialised installation and maintenance company has installed bollards (protective posts) on the sidewalks and so-called «pockets», so drivers can no longer leave their cars there.

Earlier, NikVesti wrote about how they will work and who will control the payment.
