Water Restored Soon: Kim says supply returns tomorrow or day after, treatment plants ready in October

A new water supply system to provide Mykolaiv with drinking water may be launched in the coming days. At the same time, the first stage of the new treatment plant will be ready no earlier than October.

This was reported by Vitalii Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional Water Authority, on 26 August on «Yedyni Novyny».

According to the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Water Administration, the construction of the new water supply system has reached the final stage and it may be launched in the coming days. At the same time, the new treatment plant will only start operating in October, so until then, water may have to be passed through the old treatment systems.

«The final stage of the water supply system, as Oleksii Kuleba said in his commentary, is 27-28 August, i.e. tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. This is true. We are working out all the technical details to get the project up and running. I would like the Ministry to comment on this. We are also working on the sewage treatment plant, which will be launched in October. This is the first stage of the new treatment plant, but we have old treatment plants that can also be used to run water,» Kim said.

He stressed that the new water supply system has an increased level of protection against enemy attacks:

«Everything is protected. It cannot be destroyed, because it is 67-73 kilometres long, meaning that it is made up of different parts and everything is being repaired. That is, they cannot destroy this water supply system,» said the head of the RMA.

According to Vitalii Kim, the water supply system and the first stage of the treatment plant are being restored under a government programme. Further development of the project will be implemented in cooperation with the European Investment Bank and will last approximately two to three years.

«In simple terms, the treatment is 95% complete, and it will be 97 or 99% there. This is a long project that is being worked out together with the city and is now in the process of deciding on financing,» he added.

Earlier, Oleksii Kuleba, Vice Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine, Minister of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, said that the construction of a new water supply system for Mykolaiv was already at the final stage. Pumping stations are 86% complete. He said that at the end of August, the city would receive water.
