The first 500 tonnes of watermelons and more than 46,000 tonnes of grain crops have been harvested in the Kherson region.
This was reported by the press service of the Kherson Regional Military Administration.
Almost 5,000 tonnes of rapeseed and about 2,000 tonnes of vegetables have also been harvested. Almost 220,000 hectares of land were sown for the 2025 harvest in the region. However, in the spring, more than 50,000 hectares of crops were damaged or lost due to frost and drought.
Already 300 agricultural companies have applied to record their losses. Special commissions have been set up to assess the situation.
«We have appealed to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and international partners for urgent support for our farmers,» said Dmitry Butrii, First Deputy Head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration.
Last year, more than a thousand hectares were planted with melons in Kherson region, and the harvest increased from 3,000 tonnes in 2023 to 22,500 tonnes in 2024. This high demand for Kherson watermelons encourages farmers to expand their crops.
