Over 150 hectares of potentially mined areas discovered in Mykolaiv and Kherson regions

More than 150 hectares of potentially mined areas have been discovered in Mykolaiv and Kherson regions. Photo: DRCIn the Mykolaiv and Kherson regions, experts from the Danish Refugee Council are conducting non-technical surveys of areas that may be contaminated with mines and explosive devices.
This was reported by the Danish Refugee Council.
It is noted that specialists collect information, communicate with local residents, study maps and data to determine where exactly it may be dangerous. So far, 30 potentially dangerous areas with a total area of more than 150 hectares have been identified.
- 16 of these areas are in the Bilozerka community in Kherson region
- 14 — in the Bereznehuvate and Halytsynove communities in Mykolaiv region
«We often come across areas that look safe, but only after a thorough survey does it become clear whether there are mines or other dangerous objects. This not only helps to conserve resources, but also saves the lives of the people who carry out the demining», said Maryna, a specialist at the Danish Refugee Council.
As of the beginning of June, 108 mine action operators have been certified in Ukraine. The volume of territories that have received the status of safe has increased by almost 50% compared to last year.
