This week, Ukrainian defenders managed to stop the advance of Russian troops in the Sumy region, and the frontline has stabilised.
This was announced by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi.
According to him, in the Sumy and Kursk directions, the Ukrainian military forced the enemy to keep up to 50,000 troops, including their elite units - paratroopers and marines.
«Our offensive actions in the Glushkovsky district of Kursk region forced the enemy to send some troops to defend its territory. This has significantly reduced the offensive capabilities of the main group of enemy troops in the Sumy sector», noted Oleksandr Syrskyi.
He also said that a special group for the defence of Sumy region has been set up in the North-Slobozhansky sector, whose primary tasks will be to strengthen fortifications and build up the system of engineering and fortification barriers.
In addition, a separate official has been appointed to be directly responsible for preparing the cities and communities of Sumy region for defence and ensuring the effectiveness of the system of engineering barriers on the likely directions of the enemy's offensive.
We would like to remind you that the mandatory evacuation in Sumy region has been extended to 11 more settlements. This is because civilians are in danger due to constant shelling of the border.
