Teenager from Mykolaiv region receives «Children are Heroes» award for saving his brother

Children are Heroes 2025. Photo: MINISTRY OF INTERNAL AFFAIRSThe Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine has awarded Dmytro Amalskyi from Mykolaiv region, who saved his brother from a fire, with the honorary award «Children are Heroes» for his courageous act.
This was announced by Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko.
It is noted that during the fire, the 16-year-old teenager took his younger brother out of the smoky house. He did not hesitate to risk himself to save the life of his family member.
Along with Dmitry, six other teenagers from different parts of Ukraine who showed courage in extreme situations received awards:
- Olha Laktionova, 16, from Kherson region, rushed onto thin ice to save four children. She was in danger herself, but her action gave them a chance to live. A child was saved. Olia is a symbol of self-sacrifice and strength.
- Arina Zhurba, 13 years old, Sumy. After the drone exploded, she got out of the rubble on her own, helped her father regain consciousness and tried to save her brother. He was injured. Under the rubble. Without adults.
- Illia Zavalnyi, 16, Zhytomyr region. His friend fell through the ice. There were no adults around. Ilya did not lose his cool, calmed his friend down, organised help, and stayed by his side until the end. Cold and fear are no obstacle when you have courage.
- Artem Maloshyk, 14 years old, Dnipro region. During the Russian shelling, he repeatedly helped extinguish fires and saved the property of his fellow villagers. He is a volunteer. A rescuer. An adult at heart.
- Yana Stepanenko, 13, Donetsk region. Lost both legs during an enemy attack on the railway station in Kramatorsk. Today she runs marathons to help wounded soldiers. Her story is about the power of the spirit to overcome pain.
- Daria Zviriaka, 10 years old, Odesa. In the middle of the night, she felt the danger and woke up her mother. A moment later there was an explosion. There was glass and ruins all around — her vigilance saved her family.
These awards are a recognition of the courage and responsibility of the younger generation of Ukrainians who demonstrate true heroism even in difficult times.
