Finland predicts that Russia will build up forces near its border after the war in Ukraine

Sami Nurmi, the head of strategic planning for the Finnish Defence Forces, said that Russia is likely to start returning its troops from Ukraine and building up forces near the Finnish border after the war ends.

He said this in an interview with The Guardian.

According to the general, preparations are already underway to build new military infrastructure near the common border. He added that Finland is closely monitoring the situation, although there is currently no direct military threat from Russia.

Sami Nurmi also noted that Russia is likely to simultaneously plan to strengthen its presence near the border and further deploy forces to Ukraine.

As a reminder, in April, The New York Times published satellite images showing Russia's active construction of military facilities near Finland.

It was also reported earlier that Finland had signed an agreement with the European Commission to supply Ukraine with heavy ammunition. They will be purchased from Finnish manufacturers, and funding for €90 million will come from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets through the European Peace Fund.

In addition, Finland will provide Ukraine with a new military aid package worth about 200 million euros. This is more than $217 million.
