Mykolaiv and the Swedish city of Trelleborg have signed a partnership agreement. It was signed via video conference.

According to the mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, the signing of the agreement was preceded by joint work between the two cities.

According to him, cooperation between Mykolaiv and the Swedish city of Trelleborg began at the end of 2024. Trelleborg initiated the partnership, and in early 2025, the leader of the Trelleborg Liberal Party group, Christoffer Lindström, visited the city. His goal was to see with his own eyes how Mykolaiv lives in the midst of war and to determine how their city could help.

«What does our partnership entail? Joint projects in the fields of economy, science, education, as well as exchange of experience between our municipalities. I believe that this step will open up new opportunities for Mykolaiv and provide even more support to our community», added Oleksandr Sienkevych.

Oleksandr Sienkevych signed the agreement on behalf of Mykolaiv. The group of Trelleborg representatives was headed by Mayor Mathias Andersson.

As a reminder, the International Labour Organization (ILO) has launched a project in Mykolaiv region to help people find jobs and start their own businesses. At the opening, an agreement on the Local Employment Partnership (LEP) was signed. This will allow the authorities, employers and educators to join forces to better adapt vocational education to the real needs of the labour market and help local businesses.
