President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has officially appointed political scientist and journalist Nariman Dzhelial, who has been in Russian captivity for almost three years, as Ukraine's ambassador to Turkey.
This is known from Presidential Decree No. 305/2025.
«To appoint Dzhelial Nariman Enverovych as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Turkey»," the text of the document reads.
Nariman Dzhelial, Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, was released from Russian captivity at the end of June 2024. In the autumn, Ukraine's previous ambassador to Turkey, Vasyl Bodnar, moved to the post of ambassador to Poland, leaving the diplomatic mission in Ankara without a permanent head.
Earlier it was reported that Ukraine's permanent mission to the UN would be headed by former Deputy Foreign Minister and Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk.
