In the fields of the right-bank Kherson region, 50% of the winter crops sown were damaged by the April frost.

This was reported by Oleksandr Hordiienko, chairman of the Association of Farmers and Private Landowners of the Kherson Region, according to the Pryazovia News project «Radio Liberty».

«Although the frosts in spring were light, they had a significant impact on winter crops. As of today, 50% of the sown area is affected. The spring cold weather is compounded by another problem — drought», he said.

In addition to adverse weather conditions, farmers are forced to work under constant threat. Due to the difficult security situation, farmers are less and less able to go out into the fields.

«The situation in the Kherson region is very difficult. It is impossible to work in the fields without electronic warfare and drone protection, as the risks are too high,» said Oleksandr Hordiienko.

He also stressed the need for additional preferences for farmers from the frontline areas due to the danger and lack of staff.

«Kherson region's farmers need attention from the authorities and the relevant ministry. Unfortunately, in terms of taxation and mobilisation, our region has the same conditions as other regions, although the real situation here is much more complicated,» he concluded.

As a reminder, the April cold snap in Mykolaiv region almost completely destroyed the stone fruit crops — apricots, cherries and cherry plums. Some farms recorded 100% losses.
