Mykolaiv hospitals need 132 healthcare workers, including 42 vacancies for young interns.

This was announced by Iryna Shamrai, Head of the Health Department of the Mykolaiv City Council, during a briefing, NikVesti reports.

In 2025, the Ministry of Health introduced a portal of vacancies for doctors and medical workers, which has 132 vacancies for the needs of Mykolaiv, including 42 vacancies for interns.

«Every year we take almost the same number of interns for training. Approximately 100 interns are trained with us, in terms of percentage, about 50% are state employees, 50% are contract employees», she said.

However, according to Iryna Shamrai, there are nuances in the training of young state-funded doctors. She noted that the law does not provide for a three-year service period for them. This means that they can leave to work in other cities, having acquired a deficit speciality.

«This is how we train specialists, and after completing the internship, having received funds from the institution, they can go to work in another city, having received a scarce speciality from us,» she said.

Interns in Mykolaiv are encouraged to stay by being provided with apartments. According to Iryna Shamrai, 12 apartments have been given to them recently. However, even this does not always influence the decision of young doctors.

As the head of the health department explained, after completing their internships, doctors often return to their home towns to work there. This is due to the system of vacancies distribution.

As a reminder, this epidemic season in Mykolaiv, the demand for flu vaccination has decreased compared to 2024, despite the high incidence.

Earlier it was reported that the Ministry of Health (MOH) predicts a shortage of staff globally by 2030. Therefore, strategies are currently being developed to provide the system with employees.
