Units of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces and the Security Service of Ukraine, in cooperation with other components of the Defence Forces, struck at the Engels airfield in the Saratov region of Russia. Russian aviation was firing at Ukraine from there.

This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces.

Earlier, the governor of the Saratov region confirmed the evacuation of the population due to a fire at a military airfield.

According to the Ukrainian military, a fire, explosions and secondary detonation of ammunition were reported near the airfield.

«This military facility is used by the occupiers' aviation, in particular, to launch missile strikes on the territory of Ukraine and terrorist attacks against the civilian population», the statement said.

The General Staff adds that the Defence Forces have detailed information about the strategic facilities of the Russian troops, comply with international humanitarian law and «take measures to protect civilians as much as possible and stop the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine».

As a reminder, in January, the Ukrainian military hit the «Liskinska» oil depot located in the Voronezh region of Russia.
