Since the de-occupation of the Kherson region, 52 people have exploded on mines and other explosive devices, 13 of them have died.

This was reported by Dmytro Yunusov, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Irrigation Development of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, on the programme «Vhoru».

According to him, the situation has improved somewhat since November 2024, with no fatalities recorded, but it still remains tense.

The most dangerous areas are now fields and forest belts, where there are a large number of explosive devices. Dmytro Yunusov noted that farmers often try to clear their land of mines on their own, which is extremely dangerous and sometimes leads to tragedies.

Law enforcement agencies have already responded to unauthorised demining and opened criminal proceedings in such cases. Dmytro Yunusov stressed that only specialists should be involved in demining, as it is not only a risk to life but also a violation of the law.

As a reminder, as of December 2024, 1,083 civilians have been injured by Russian anti-personnel mines in the de-occupied territories of Ukraine. Of these, 333 were killed and 750 injured.
