The Ministry of Education plans to return 100,000 foreigners to Ukraine after the end of the war, who will study in educational institutions.
This was stated by the Minister of Education Mykhailo Vynnytskyi in an interview with Ukrainian Radio.
He noted that before the war, there were 73,000 foreign students studying in Ukraine. Most of them were from India, North Africa, and former Soviet countries, as well as the Global South. Most of them were studying to be doctors — there were about 68,000 of them.
«I can announce that in the near future, after the end of the war, we need to return at least 100 thousand students to Ukraine,» said Mykhailo Vynnytskyi.
He also noted that the stay of one foreign student in Ukraine, including dormitory and tuition fees, costs approximately 10 thousand euros per year. According to him, this is beneficial for the country's economy.
«Do the math, that's a billion euros every year in our economy. Our education is competitive, we have the ability to do it. We need to invest now in infrastructure to make it attractive. And we have the ability to create such an economic driver with this network of higher education institutions that we have today,» he added.
It was previously reported that starting from the 2025-2026 academic year, third-year students at Ukrainian universities will undergo basic military training. Such innovations are not related to mobilization, but are designed to provide students with basic knowledge and skills in self-defense, handling weapons, and providing first aid.
