In the Mykolaiv region, the hunting season was opened due to the spread of rabies in the wild.

As reported in the State Production and Consumer Service of the Mykolaiv region.

It is noted that a meeting was held regarding the opening of the hunting season, which was attended by representatives of the regional authorities and owners and users of hunting grounds.

Serhii Rekun, the head of the Main Department of the State Production and Consumer Service in the Mykolaiv region, emphasized the need for increased control over the red fox population, which is the main carrier of rabies in the wild.

The meeting also discussed the organization of measures to immunize wild carnivores against rabies.

«During the meeting, special attention was paid to the planning of measures for oral immunization of wild carnivores, which are planned for the beginning of November. The State Production and Consumer Service, together with the participants of the meeting, will ensure the vaccination of animals against rabies. This is an important preventive initiative aimed at reducing the risks to wild animals and preventing the possible spread of dangerous infections to humans,» the message reads.

We will remind that in Mykolaiv in the first quarter of the year, 179 people were treated for animal bites, which is 10% more than last year.

It was also reported that dogs and cats are being vaccinated against rabies in villages in the Mykolaiv region.
