The dismantling of the entrances of the building destroyed by the rocket on Pohranychna Street has begun in Mykolaiv

Construction workers began to dismantle the parts of the five-story building at 43 Pohranychna Street in Mykolaiv destroyed by the missile strike.

Two destroyed sections of the building were damaged by the Russian attack in the fall of 2022. The examination showed that it is no longer possible to restore this part of the building and the authorities agreed to its dismantling.

Residents did not agree to the dismantling for a long time and tried to postpone it. However, later they were forced to give their consent, because the house could receive additional damage due to weather conditions.

«Everyone who could take out their belongings and had the opportunity did so. One apartment was vacated with the help of the police, because the woman herself is not here and she did not want to take such a step at all,» assured local resident Tetiana.

Special equipment is already working on site: a CASE excavator with an extended handle for dismantling and a front-end loader for removing construction debris. The works are being carried out by UNDP construction workers, who started with the demolition of the outer entrance. Dismantling is carried out carefully so as not to damage the surviving parts of the building where people still live.

«We are working according to the plan. The only difficulty is that there is not enough space to place all the equipment at the same time. However, we are not in a hurry, because we need to save the foundation,» commented one of the builders.

The residents themselves say that they are gradually getting used to the idea that soon nothing will be left in place of their house. However, they hope that the authorities will restore the building in the future.

«When the builders arrived, I was overcome with emotions. I have calmed down a little now. I'm not a tumbleweed. Here was my home, my life, my roots,» said the resident of the house.
