«In the second half of August, water will be in the taps»: water supply to Mykolaiv has started

Water supply to the new Mykolaiv water supply system has started. In the second half of August, water should be available in the taps of the townspeople.

This was reported by the Recovery Agency.

After completing the main construction and installation works, technical specialists began a phased and controlled filling of the water supply system. According to the engineers, the launch cannot be carried out abruptly, as this can cause a hydraulic shock that can damage pipes or fittings before the start of operation.

That is why the water is supplied slowly, from a controlled point, and the air is forced out of the pipes through the air release valves. The operating team continuously monitors the pressure, water flow rate and equipment operation to avoid accidents or air locks. In addition, the network was pre-flushed to ensure that no construction residue or dust got into the water.

Serhii Sukhomlyn, Head of the Recovery Agency, stressed that in the second half of August, water will be supplied to the taps of Mykolaiv residents.

«Water is gradually being supplied through the networks. And in the second half of August, it will appear in the taps of Mykolaiv residents. The water supply project for Mykolaiv is not only about the rapid supply of water to more than five hundred thousand people, which is undoubtedly important. This is a comprehensive project for the future. We have calculated scenarios for the cost of water pumping for Mykolaiv in order to keep the tariff for the city residents in check. Energy-efficient and safety solutions have been incorporated,» said Sukhomlyn.

As of today, 134.6 km of the pipeline has been installed, which is 98% of the total length. The readiness of pumping stations is 80%.

Oleksii Kuleba, Vice Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine, reminded that the funds saved on the construction will be used for other water supply projects in Dnipro, Odesa and Poltava regions, where the water supply situation remains critical.

«The project cost was reduced by over 2.5 billion hryvnias. These funds will be used for new water supply projects in those regions where the situation remains critical. These are water pipelines in Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa and Poltava regions», said Oleksii Kuleba.
