Mykolaiv has received $100,000 in funding from the Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund to implement climate initiatives proposed by local youth. As part of the competition, 18 eco-projects were selected out of 26 ideas submitted to be implemented this year.
According to the Mykolaiv Development Agency, the winners include projects to green the city, create awareness campaigns, create a dog walking park, and set up a greenhouse in the zoo.
One interesting example is the mobile eco-park «Eco Mobile Park», which is planned to be created on the territory of a yacht club. According to the author of the project, Yevhen, it is planned to plant trees in mobile pots and install benches and trash bins so that all elements of the park are mobile and can be moved if necessary.
«Either the park will have fixed benches, but we will be able to move our trees. Or the benches will not be fixed. In this case, we will be able to move our park completely to the yacht club building in case of force majeure. There are six benches and three litter bins,» said Yevhen.
The Mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, thanked the initiative youth and international partners for supporting the city's sustainable development. In his opinion, it is projects like these that help to shape a new environmental culture and make Mykolaiv a better place to live.
As a reminder, a green zone has been installed in Mykolaiv to adapt to climate change. The «Arch Garden» will create shade and spray water on hot days.
