Mykolaiv has installed modern solar power plants on the roofs of two hospitals and the city's geriatric home.

According to the Mykolaiv City Council, solar power plants not only increase energy autonomy but also allow for significant savings on utilities.

Alla Lutska, Director of the Department of Energy, Energy Saving and the Introduction of Innovative Technologies, said that the active installation of solar power plants in Mykolaiv institutions began in 2023.

According to her, such projects were developed thanks to donors and the NGO «EcoClub», as well as the Yellowblue Force Foundation.

It is noted that not only solar panels were installed at these three facilities. The project also includes the installation of powerful energy storage devices.

«In total, modern power plants with a capacity of 60 kW and 70 kW have been installed in the hospitals, and 20 kW in the geriatric home. Therefore, even in the event of a blackout, the critical systems of these institutions will operate stably», the statement said.

In addition, they added that the city authorities provided 10% of the total cost to install solar power plants in hospitals. In the geriatric home project, the city developed the documentation at the expense of the donors, and the rest was paid for by the donors.

As a reminder, six solar power plants have been installed on the roofs of medical facilities in Mykolaiv over the past two years with donor funds.

Earlier, the Mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych , announced plans to create an energy island «in the city», which will ensure stable heat supply during large-scale power outages.

In early 2025, Denmark allocated more than €26 million in aid to Mykolaiv region. Part of this money will be spent on the energy sector: various equipment and solar panels to increase energy resilience.

At the same time, it is known that solar stations will be installed at the facilities of «Mykolaivvodokanal». The work will be financed by partners from Denmark.
