French President Emmanuel Macron announced his initiative for a ceasefire in the main conflicts that continue in the world, including the war in Ukraine, for the duration of the Olympic Games and is counting on the help of the Chinese leader in this matter.

He said this in an interview with RMC and BFMTV regarding the upcoming Olympic Games hosted by France, EP informs.

«The leader of China will come to Paris in a few weeks. I asked him to help. In 2022, we also faced such a task before the Winter Olympic Games, which were hosted by China. So this can also become a diplomatic moment for peace,» emphasized Emmanuel Macron.

He noted that he will try to make maximum efforts for the «Olympic truce», clarifying that he means the war between Israel and Hamas, and the war between Russia and Ukraine, and the war in Sudan.

The French president said that he wants to involve many partners for this purpose.

He also said that France is confident of a successful opening ceremony of the Olympics on the Seine River in July, but has backup options in case the security situation requires it.

It will be recalled that approximately half of the surveyed French aged 18 to 25 said that they would join military operations in Ukraine if it was necessary to protect France.
