In Mykolaiv, 26 kilometres of water mains will be replaced on 36 streets in the Korabelny district as part of the «Non-revenue Water» project.

This was announced during a briefing by Hennadii Iziumov, director of the municipal enterprise «Mykolaivvodokanal», according to NikVesti.

According to him, the project involves not only the replacement of pipes of various diameters, but also the refurbishment of manholes and shut-off valves.

«We plan to replace nearly 26 kilometres of pipes of various diameters. This includes networks, wells and shut-off valves. The project is being implemented by Perslow and a consortium comprising VIC and KSM. They are working to schedule, and we have no issues,» said Hennadii Iziumov.

He noted that the work is proceeding on schedule, and in some areas residents are already using the new water supply networks.

According to the company’s director, almost two kilometres of pipes were replaced during the first quarter as part of the project. The total length of the networks to be upgraded will be around 26 kilometres.

As a reminder, the project «Non-revenue water: reconstruction of the water supply system in a selected district of Mykolaiv» is being implemented with the support of the Danish government through the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO). It aims to reduce water losses in the networks and improve the efficiency of the water supply system. The city council noted that once the project is completed, they plan to use the experience gained to modernise water supply networks in other districts of Mykolaiv.

It should be noted that Mykolaiv’s sewerage networks are in a critical state, and sewer collapses occur in the city virtually every week. Last year, the workshop carried out rehabilitation work on 160 metres of pipelines. The company now plans to increase the volume of work and restore individual sections of sewerage collectors on a monthly basis. In particular, preparatory work has already been carried out on the collector on Metalurhiv Street in the Korabelnyi district, where around 600 metres of the network were inspected.
