US President Donald Trump has rejected a proposal from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to assist American troops and their allies in the Middle East in intercepting drones from Iran.
He said this in a telephone interview with NBC News.
US President Donald Trump publicly criticised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and stated that he should strike a deal with Russia.
Journalists asked Trump about criticism from foreign leaders regarding the easing of sanctions against Russia. However, in his response, he focused on Zelenskyy’s position.
«I am surprised that Zelenskyy does not want to strike a deal. Tell Zelenskyy to strike a deal, because Putin is ready to strike a deal,» said Donald Trump.
According to him, negotiating with Volodymyr Zelenskyy is «much more difficult».
The US president also noted that Washington «doesn’t need help», adding that «the last person we need help from is Zelenskyy».
Donald Trump refused to give a direct answer to the question of whether the US had accepted Ukraine’s assistance in intercepting Iranian drones.
Commenting on reports that Russia may have passed intelligence on US troops to Iran, Donald Trump said that this might be true, but there is no confirmation of this.
At the same time, he noted that the US also shares certain information with Ukraine and is trying to «establish peace between the two countries».
Earlier, US officials reported that Iranian drones were causing more serious problems than expected, and that air defence systems were unable to intercept them all.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed sending Ukrainian specialists in intercepting Iranian drones to the Middle East, provided that regional leaders could persuade Russian President Vladimir Putin to agree to a month-long ceasefire in the war.
