Russian presidential spokesman Dmitrii Peskov has said that Moscow is allegedly open to peace talks with Ukraine, but sees them primarily as a tool to achieve its own goals in the war.
This was reported by Russian agencies «RIA Novosti», «TASS» and «Interfax».
During a briefing for the Indian media, Dmitry Peskov noted that peace talks should primarily help Russia «achieve the tasks set within the framework of the special military operation». He also said that everyone in Russia «wants peace», but that Russian President Vladimir Putin «had grounds» to launch a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The Russian president's spokesman also said that a meeting between Vladimir Putin and US special envoy Steve Vitkoff is scheduled for around 5pm Moscow time.
As Interfax reminds, this will be Vitkoff's sixth visit to Russia in 2025. He first came to Moscow in February, after which he visited the Russian capital and St Petersburg on 13 March, 11 and 25 April, and 6 August.
On Monday, 1 December, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a conversation with US Special Representative Steve Witkoff and NSDC Secretary and head of the Ukrainian negotiating delegation Rustem Umerov. French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also joined the discussion.
