The United States of America is ready to recognise Russia's control over the occupied Ukrainian territories in exchange for Moscow's signing of a peace agreement as soon as possible.

This was reported by The Telegraph, citing its own sources.

According to the media, US President Donald Trump has already sent businessman Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner to Moscow to convey to Vladimir Putin the preliminary terms of this potential agreement.

As a reminder, the first version of the 28-point «US peace plan», which was also published by Axios, provided for the de facto recognition of Russia's full control over Crimea, as well as Donetsk and Luhansk regions. In the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, it was proposed «to freeze» the borders along the contact line.

After a series of consultations between the US and Ukraine in Geneva, the document was reduced to 19 points. However, according to The Telegraph, the issue of recognising Russia's control over part of the Ukrainian territories has not yet been removed from possible proposals during the peace talks.

At the same time, the newspaper emphasises that Washington does not seem to be going to force Kyiv to officially recognise the loss of its land.

«It is becoming increasingly clear that the Americans are not interested in Europe's position. They say that Europeans can act as they see fit,» the newspaper quoted one of its sources as saying.

Earlier, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitrii Peskov said that Moscow had received «the main parameters of the peace plan», which was discussed in Geneva by representatives of Ukraine, the United States and European countries.
