Cherkasy has prepared for winter in a «unique» way: «Houses will be warm even in cold weather, blackouts and without gas»

Cherkasy has become the only city in Ukraine to develop a set of measures to provide heat to medical facilities and residential buildings in the event of a gas supply interruption.

Pavlo Karas, head of the utility company «Cherkasyteplocomunenergo», told the media outlet «Vycherpno».

According to him, Cherkasy has created a multi-level system of protection against electrical blackouts, and the city now has its own power generation. Despite the fact that the lack of gas significantly complicates the operation of heating systems, the city has managed to prepare for such a scenario.

«In the event of a gas blackout, we will provide heat to the city's hospitals and keep the homes of Cherkasy residents warm. That is, the temperature will be «plus», even if it is «minus» outside,» explained Pavlo Karas.

He noted that such measures were developed exclusively in Cherkasy. The project itself was implemented thanks to additional funding from the city budget and the company's own funds.

«We have implemented the appropriate technical solutions to keep our systems, which are diesel burners, running. However, these burners cannot meet the hygienic standard of a minimum air temperature of at least +18°C (and in corner rooms - at least +20°C), which must be maintained throughout the heating season. If the temperature outside is below zero, the temperature in the houses will be «plus», maybe +8...+10 degrees, depending on the ambient temperature,» said the head of the company.

Pavel Karas stressed that the main goal of such measures is to prevent the heating systems from freezing and to ensure at least a certain minimum level of comfort for the city's residents until gas supply is restored.

As a reminder, Mykolaiv is also preparing for the heating season in view of possible attacks on its energy and gas transmission infrastructure. Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych urged the townspeople to be prepared for the most difficult scenarios, as Russian attacks on the energy system could happen again.
