The mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, has responded to the words of Kremlin spokesman Dmitrii Peskov, who said that the city's residents allegedly want to join Russia.

He said this during a session of the Mykolaiv City Council on Tuesday, 30 September, according to NikVesti.

Oleksandr Sienkevych reminded that back in 2022, Mykolaiv residents clearly proved their position — the city will remain Ukrainian.

The heroic city of Mykolaiv defended its right to be part of Ukraine, showed patriotism and readiness to defend national interests. Such statements are nothing more than empty words», the mayor said.

According to him, a large number of Mykolaiv residents are currently fighting at the frontline, and many have given their lives for the freedom of Ukraine. Therefore, he called the Kremlin's words a manipulation.

Sienkiewicz also stressed that most of the victims of Russian shelling in the city were Russian speakers: «When you talk about «protecting Russian speakers», you forget that it is Russia that kills them».

«The Kremlin's spokesperson himself allows himself to make statements about Mykolaiv region. The killers say that their victims seem to want to «join» them. It's so absurd... It's only interesting that Russians will believe this and really decide that they need to «save» those who allegedly dream of becoming part of this under-empire», said Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych.
