The Kremlin has accused Ukraine of delaying peace talks, but at the same time said that all the countries proposed by Kyiv for a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin are «absolutely unacceptable» for Moscow.
This was reported by Russian «Interfax», TASS and «Vesti.ru» with reference to Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitrii Peskov.
«The Kyiv regime has now taken a completely passive stance. Apparently, they are trying to demonstrate to their sponsors in Europe and their handlers that they can fight. But they should not forget that with every day that passes, when the Ukrainian side refuses to negotiate, the negotiating position of the Ukrainian side will only get worse,» said Dmitrii Peskov.
He added that this is allegedly «evidenced by the» dynamics at the front. Peskov did not explain what exactly the Kremlin meant by the words «Ukraine refuses to negotiate», but he stressed that all the countries that Ukraine proposed for a meeting with Vladimir Putin were unacceptable to Russia.
«The Ukrainians are bombarding us with a lot of proposals, naming a huge number of countries. And initially, they insisted not on Kazakhstan at all, but on those countries that are absolutely unacceptable to us. For some reason, Switzerland is still considered a neutral country. Or Austria. They are de facto no longer neutral countries for us, and we need to take this into account,» said Dmitrii Peskov.
It should be noted that recently, Vladimir Putin's spokesman Dmitrii Peskov said that Russian President Vladimir Putin «remains open» to resolving the war through peaceful negotiations.
Earlier, Dmitrii Peskov said that negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are currently on hold.
As a reminder, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he was not opposed to meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, but that the venue for the talks should be Moscow.
